Niseko Hirafu View from the Maples Resort

Oil on Canvas

60cm x 80cm x 3.8cm

In early 2023, I flew to Hokkaido Japan with my colleague for a company's ski trip. It was a short but lovely retreat allowing us to escape from the hustle busy life.

The crispy air of Niseko welcome us as we arrived the beautiful Maples resort nestled in the heart of this ski wonderland Hirafu. From the window of the resort, the view was breathtaking – the small town was blanked in soft, powdery snow, charming rooftops adorned with sparkling icicles. The Mount Yōtei looks so close to us with its peak glimmering under the winter sun.

Our trip was filled with joy. We skied the slopes by day, our laughter echoing through the crisp air; we gathered in the resort in the evening sharing the drinks and playing cards. It was such a pleasant journey with my dear colleague that each moment felt like a brushstroke on canvas, vibrant and full of life.

I created this painting after we returned home. I wanted to keep the beauty of Yōtei Mountain, the lovely Hirafu, the cozy Maples, and the magic of winter in my memory, on my canvas.

Although it wasn't specifically a Christmas occasion, the artwork is infused with a holiday atmosphere, radiating warmth and joy.
